Chapter 1 of 7

Into the Night

You are stepping into Montmartre on a gas-lit evening in 1892. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec — the aristocratic Post-Impressionist who made the cabaret his true studio — painted this scene from the inside, not as a tourist but as a fixture. He knew everyone in this room, and that intimacy changed everything about what he saw.
