Chapter 1 of 7

A Bold Claim

He is looking straight at you — and he has been for five centuries. In 1500, Albrecht Dürer painted himself in the frontal pose reserved for images of Christ, a Northern Renaissance artist declaring that creative genius deserves the same reverence once granted only to the divine. That claim still holds the room.
