Chapter 1 of 7

A Night Alive with Light

Stand before van Gogh's Starry Night Over the Rhône, painted in Arles in September 1888. The river opens like a dark mirror; above it, stars burn with fierce intensity. He painted not what the eye sees but what the soul feels at the water's edge after dark.
