Chapter 1 of 7

Into the Storm

Henri Rousseau unveiled this canvas at the Paris Salon of 1891 — his first jungle painting. A Bengal tiger crouches in dense vegetation, caught mid-stalk by a sudden storm. A self-taught toll collector who never left France, Rousseau built this world from pure imagination.
