Chapter 1 of 7

A Garden Dreamed in Paint

Step back and let the canvas breathe. Monet painted this in 1899, not from imagination but from a garden he built himself — diverting a stream at Giverny, planting the pond with lilies, arching a Japanese-style bridge across its centre. The beginning of a lifelong obsession.
