Chapter 1 of 7

A Room Never Sold

Step inside a room Vermeer never sold. The Art of Painting hung in his Delft home until his death — he knew it was unlike anything he had made. Painted around 1666, it dresses self-examination as quiet domesticity: a curtain, a map, a painter reaching for his canvas.
